The Rifugio Lavaredo can be reached by car along the scenic road from Misurina to Rifugio Auronzo. From the parking, you can reach the mountain hut in a 20 minutes hike along the comfortable trail n. 101, completely flat.
You can also get there by hiking up from Val Marzon, which is at the end of the town of Auronzo di Cadore, along trail n. 104, in about 3 hours, in a picturesque setting.
For those coming from Pusteria Valley, after the town of Sesto, it is possible to hike along the Fiscalina Valley, first reaching the mountain hut Rifugio Locatelli, then crossing the saddle Forcella Lavaredo, where it is possible to admire some of the most beautiful mountains of theDolomites, such as the Cima Grande di Lavaredo 2,999 m, the Ovest 2,973 m and the Piccola di Lavaredo 2,856 m, Mount Paterno 2,746 m, the Cadini Group 2,837 m and the Croda dei Toni 3,094 m.
The Rifugio Lavaredo was built in 1954 by the mountain guide Francesco Corte Colò “Mazzetta”, a pioneer of mountain rescue in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo since the early 1950s and one of the founders of the Auronzo Mountain Rescue Service.
Thanks to its favorable location, it is an excellent approach point for most of the ascents to the Lavaredo Peaks, which have been attracting climbers and hikers from around the world for their majestic and spectacular walls since the mid-19th century.
The Rifugio offers splendid views and the opportunity to visit the area through the trails, via ferratas and World War I walkways. It is also a post for rescue and helicopter rescue operations.
To the North and West, one can reach the villages of Alta Val Pusteria: Sesto, San Candido, and Dobbiaco. To the South and East it is possible to descend through the valleys of Auronzo and Misurina, renowned for their wonderful alpine lakes.
